Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited settings in which service providers or lawful authorities may receive it. Continued use of Cass County Criminal History signals acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query under its own terms. We do not keep a local log of those search words.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not shared beyond the organization unless disclosure is legally required.

Data We Gather Automatically

Ordinary server logs may record technical details when a page loads:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies and analytics help measure traffic, popular pages, and general navigation patterns. A browser can block or remove cookies, though parts of the site may then work differently. Analytics providers combine visits into performance reports.

What We Do With This Data

  • Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
  • Sending your search requests to the right partner service
  • Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
  • Tracking down and fixing technical issues
  • Showing ads that may line up with your interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Cass County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official sources such as the sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to Iowa government records, while chapter 692 controls state criminal-history dissemination. Neither law turns visitor data here into a third-party criminal file or consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies run the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention choices, and sharing rules govern submitted queries. Review the provider's terms before using its service because this policy does not control that processing.

Links to Other Websites

Links to courts, the sheriff, Iowa agencies, and outside services lead to sites with their own privacy practices. Their policy applies after a visitor leaves this domain. Advertising providers may also use their systems to measure activity and select ads.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Some information may end up with:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security measures are used for information in our control. No internet system is risk free, so uninterrupted protection or the complete absence of a breach cannot be guaranteed.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A verified request concerning a minor's submitted data will be handled promptly.

Your Data Rights

Iowa Code chapters 22 and 692 govern official public records and state criminal-history data, not visitor data held by a private reference site. Other privacy rights may apply based on a user's location. Available requests may include:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
